I agree with most of what you say about Al Jazeera, but as I said I feel the same about all major media outlets. They do report but each with bias of their own variety.. As a kid I naively used to believe in objective journalism but I’ve come to realize they are just glorified blogs of whomever owns the outlet.. They frame themselves as “journalists’ to make it appear they are objective and to silence criticism. It’s somewhat similar framing to how leftists co-opt terms “democracy” and “human rights” to mean leftwing ideology. This way is if you object to their narratives they’ll accuse you of being antidemocratic and opposing human rights rights rather than disagree with them on a particular issue.. My theory is the rise of the Internet has made it more obvious to many the former gatekeepers of the news manipulate stories to match the agendas of whomever pays the bills. We all have opinions on sundry issues and of course we are going to say our POV which may or may not be accurate on any given issue.. However that’s not what journalism is supposed to be about. In theory Journalism is almost like accounting. Just report facts and figures not moral narratives of whose right or wrong on an issue by massaging the evidence and phrasing stories in a way to match one’s politics.
I’ve heard of Moran but haven’t read any of his works. My feeling with a very limited understanding of his views is he’s not as much in the continental sphere as other prominent philosophers in France. I’m more in the analytic side of things. Although there are hidden gems of knowledge to be found in continental philosophy I find it far too verbose and usually just a smokescreen for peddling variants of leftist politics. Or at least on the 20th century side of the things. Complexity theory interests me. I’d be curious to know what specifically caught your eye about Moran?
